Before February, Black History Month ends, let’s look at a title which is quite interesting and sometimes not covered in detail, foreign armies who fought together in Korea.
This volume is about the Ethiopian Imperial Guard Battalion and, at first, I was confused as to why the Asia @ War instead of Africa.
There is no table of contents, like many others in this series, the 88-page softcover does dive into the histories of the battalions sent to serve in Korea. Eighty-eight photos, aside from the 8 pages of color do a fine job of illustrating the uniforms, the characters, and the vehicles they were associated with during that action. Hald a dozen maps, a table, and several diagrams help put things into perspective while reading the body of the book.
It was interesting to read that all three battalions received the US Presidential Unit Citation and none of their men were lost as POW or MIA.
When I was teaching I would love to mention the King of Ethiopia and how he fought Italy several times and this fighting spirit lived on in the battalions
It is an excellent addition to the library of The Forgotten War. In the US, Casemate is the distributor.
