The Second World War Illustrated; The First Year

Pen & Sword Military have been releasing books heavy on photographs with minimal text within. This book, by Jack Holroyd, covers the first year of the war using archival photographs which include some color images as well.

Some captions are long while others are curt and while the web site states 750 photos, they are numbered (although not sequentially) and I have seen it reach 1048!

The photos vary in quality and size and many are known. however, the sheer volume means no one needs to go to their library to try to find that one photograph.

There are a few maps and the book feels cluttered but as a collection, it does work well.
