Product Review – Greenstrawberry Detail Set – X-65 X-Wing (Bandai 1/72)

Greenstrawberry has made a name for themselves by bringing high-quality photo-etch to the market, combined with very competitive pricing and quick shipping.

This set – T65 X-Wing – provides additional detail for the Bandai 1/72 Star Wars X-Wing. This is no mean feat considering the amount of detail that Bandai packs into this small model.

This detailed kit came to me in a nice padded envelope, packed inside a sturdy cardboard backed package that keeps the photo etch protected and straight.

You are greeted with some familiar parts – engine intake and nozzles, but some that are hard to visualize without the instructions.

After looking through the instructions (more on those below) I find a ladder for creating more realism in landed mode, an updated cockpit (with clear inserts for lighting), an updated canopy and 3 modifications that will really set your X-Wing apart.

These modifications have you cut open sections of your X-Wing to create a hinged open nose cone and various hatches on the side and underside, revealing their inner workings. This is a great touch, creating some true realism to a fictional space ship.

The instructions are straight forward, well illustrated and easy to follow. When you first start using photo-etch you may have a hard time understanding the fold lines and patterns. After you do a couple of pieces it becomes second nature. I find that Greenstrawberry’s instructions are better than most, giving you a clear step by step on how to get the proper outcome.

I like that this kit gives you options. I can add the basic parts and create a more detailed X-Wing, or I can easily create a landed scene by adding the boarding ladder, or I can go all in and create one heck of a maintenance diorama. I am going for the latter and creating a custom piece for a competition.

This is a great kit, and for the price, you get a lot of value. If you want to take your build up to that next level, check out Greenstrawberry’s many offerings! You won’t be disappointed!
