Panzers in Berlin 1945

Cover for Panzers in Berlin 1945

Panzerwreck’s latest title is definitely not a cheap book but a labor of love. I balked at the price but then considered the authors, Lee Archer, Robert Kraska, Mario Lippert, with illustrations by Felipe Rodríguez Náñez (aka Felipe Rodna) and decided to order it from Casemate (US branch).

When it arrived the first surprise was the excellent packing, the high-quality feel of the pages, covers, and binding, the superb color registration and reproduction, and then the map and bookmark fell out from the inner cover. Turning it over, I saw snap icons in which you use your phone to see the actual location ion Google maps! An incredible way to make the book sort of interactive!

The book is photograph heavy with 362 images. Also, sixteen illustrations by Felipe make this a feast for the eyes. However, the text is the meat for the mind and each photograph has detailed captions that seem to be very accurate. I used the reference list at the back to verify some and they checked out. The 392-page book starts with a brief description of the units involved in Berlin and then follows with sixteen chapters. In the end, an Appendix, Index (a handy tool missing on many books) and Bibliography follow to wrap up. See photo for the table of contents:

The book is definitely worth the asking price and now holds a place in my top shelf of reference books next to my signed copies of Panzerwrecks (signed by the late Bill Auerbach) and Panzer Tracts (signed by Tom Jentz). Depending on your location, you can get the books directly from PAnzerwrecks, Casemate (US or UK) and other book sellers.

Now, let’s let the photographic review speak as to the content quality:

Author: Saul Garcia

I have been building models for most of my life. Suffering from terminal AMS, I have not been able to build OOB until my son's birth and his room's ceiling seemed empty.
