We all have humble beginnings when we start the usually life-long hobby of plastic model building. I recall seeing those models featured on the old 80’s Testors yellow boxes and my mind was always blown away by those finished models. How can they possibly do that with those square enamel jars I often wondered. That camouflage featured on those Testos yellow boxes art also blew my mind.
Ahhh! Turns out that they did use those paints -and the Model Master series also featured on the box art- thru an airbrush. A totally alien artifact to yours truly. Â After my long hiatus from model building, I returned in the late 90’s to find out how those beautiful colors were used on model building using an airbrush.
While most of us have made the transition to airbrush more rapidly thanks to the internet forums and YouTube videos, there are still folks out there making their first steps into the model building world with the traditional rattle spray can.
At the same time, I’ve seen also folks doing amazing paint jobs on their models using nothing but ye olde brush. That’s is something that I have never been able to master.
For those model kit builders that just got into the hobby, and for those (like myself) who still use spray paint regardless of owning an airbrush or not,  I found this 2 part video tutorial on how to paint your car/auto model kits with spray paints very useful and worth sharing.
