Meng 1/35 Rolls Royce Armoured Model Car

The Rolls-Royce Armoured Car was a British armoured car developed in 1914 and used during the First World War, Irish Civil War, the inter-war period in Imperial Air Control in Transjordan, Israel and Mesopotamia, and in the early stages of the Second World War in the Middle East and North Africa.”

KIT HIGHLIGHTS
This MENG VS-010 BRITISH R-R ARMORED CAR Pattern 1914/1920 is 147mm long and 58mm wide. It has a total of 190 parts. It can be built as a 1914 or 1920 pattern. Two types of wheel rims and tires are included. The roof machine gun mount is rotatable. Clear light parts and fine PE parts are included. Now enjoy this classic legend which took part in both world wars!

The kit is fairly simple and allows you to make the early armoured cars used during WWI all the way up to the one used in the Dessert in 1942. You get a PE fret with the wire wheels and plastic tires as well as the heavier plastic hubs with rubber tyres. 4 sprues with “C” being doubled. The turret sides are one piece ans is the body. This looks like a nice quick simple build with a ton of possibilities. The glass pieces are wrapped in plastic and then in a baggy.

Photo-etch fret provided with the model kit.

There are 4 poly caps so the wheels can turn as you go brum brum across the desk imagining you were there….everyone does that right????? There are some sink marks but I think they should be easy enough to clean up. Unfortunately, the colour guide does not tell you the units of the vehicles and is kind of general in their description. I’m thinking maybe the cammed WWI version might be Dutch but I have to look more.

The WWII schemes are nice with a Caunter version and a version in sand with the huge roundel on the turret top. If you can find the info I think the kit could be converted to the open top turret with a Boyes gun and .303 but you would need to scratch the interior. The box top has a very nice Caunter schemed armoured car in action.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
I am thinking of making my own decals and building one of the 9 Silver Ghosts belonging to Lawrence of Arabia in Palestine 1917.

If you look in Amazon for the Rolls Royce Armoured Car there are a number of books including the Workshop series, Osprey and I also found 4 books on its use by Lawrence of Arabia. Hope that helps. I’ll know the value of the books when they arrive. And the one I think I would like to build first.
