Bandai Ultraman Science Special Search Party Exclusive Vehicle Kit. 0205090

Ultraman (ウルトラマン Urutoraman) is a Japanese tokusatsu science fiction television series created by Eiji Tsuburaya. Ultraman is a follow-up to Ultra Q, though not technically a sequel or spin-off. The show was produced by Tsuburaya Productions and was broadcast on Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) from July 17, 1966 to April 9, 1967, with a total of 39 episodes (40, counting the pre-premiere special that aired on July 10, 1966). After Ultraman premiered on TBS, it topped the average set by Ultra Q and kept climbing each week, marking the show as a success.

Although Ultraman is the first series to feature an Ultraman character, it is actually the second installment in the Ultra Series, with Ultra Q being the first. In fact, Ultraman opens with the Ultra Q logo exploding into the Ultraman logo. Ultraman, and its titular hero, became a major pop culture phenomenon in Japan, spawning dozens of sequels, spin-offs, rip-offs, imitators, parodies and tributes.

This is the recently released Bandai Mecha Collection Series Chevy Corvair from Ultraman. Being a 4 door sedan version I will go on a limb and say it is a ’64 so connoisseurs, please feel free to chime in and correct me if I’m wrong. The kit is not big so don’t be too excited (as I was). It is a 1/64 plastic model kit which is pretty much as big as a Hot Wheels.

As we have grown accustomed to lately with Bandai, this kit it is small but packs a punch on surface detail. No interior however but the detail on the car body and chassis is very crisp and decals are of good quality. I painted this one with Mission Models NEW MMM-005 Duraluminum and sealed with MMA-006 Clear Gloss Coat also from Mission Models. The trims and other specific areas were done with a 10/0 brush and Molotov Chrome.
