Revell 1/48 EA-6A Wild Weasel

Developed as an evolutionary variant of the original Grumman A2F-1H, the sophisticated EA-6A was constructed in the mid-sixties as a dedicated Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) and Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) aircraft. Its primary mission was to “jam” enemy surface-to-air missile radar emissions to protect U.S. Navy and Marine attack aircraft.

Revell 1/48 EA-6A Wild Weasel

Here is a kit I’ve got with a gift card someone gave me from my local hobby shop. I did not research this model before my purchase, I went straight to the shelf and off to the register. Inside the box, you will find a cleanly molded model kit with almost no molding lines and no flash to be concerned.

The main fuselage parts and wings are molded with a mix of raised and receded panel lines. The canopy can be assembled in the open or closed position. There is a humble yet fairly detailed cockpit tub and ejection seats provided with the kit. However, if you suffer from AMS (After Market Syndrome), there are nice resin offerings by Wolfpack and with some luck, you can still trace a resin cockpit from Black Box for your EA-6A Intruder.

The fuselage halves went together very nicely, that was something I was concerned with because I don’t like to mess with raised panel lines. There is some gap to be filled on the nacelles. They can still be easily fixed even after the model has been finished but they are there so you can see them.

The landing gear wells are very nicely done and the ordnance included with the kit is very welcomed. I would hesitate to build another one of these with a different set of markings. Gift cards are well used at the hobby shop, highly Recommended!

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
A word of advice, don’t be shy when adding weight to the plane’s nose or you will have a tail sitter. Don’t forget to play the movie ”Flight of the Intruder” while you build this kit. Happy model building folks!
