With the wind in your hair, the sun on your skin, and a smile on your face, it’s very easy to understand why the Miata is such a great car.
It’s the totality of what a roadster should be.
Sporty, easy to handle, topless, and well within reach for many Buyers.
It was precisely the kind of nimble, fast car that you could fall in love with.
What was special? This is before Mazda came up with the idea to call special editions of the NA the M-Edition. It’s colloquially known as the Black and Tan, which means it has black paint and a tan leather interior. A lot of them had the C package, which included the Nardi shift nob and hand brake along with lightweight 14-inch BBS wheels.

Revell 1/24 Scale ’92 Mazda Miata MX-5 Plastic Model Kit
This another pending project from last year that was finished this week. This is the 1/24 ’92 Mazda Miata MX-5 from Revell. This was among the last kits sent in from the now-defunct Hobbico to our studio. We truly miss Hobbico. They were strong supporters of this website since our beginnings,
The ’92 Mazda Miata MX-5 from Revell is a rebox of the 1993 original Revell release. The kit was also released by Revell of Germany with slightly different decals.
Other than that, what you’ve got in ’93 is what we get today*. The body comes cleanly molded. There are a few spots with flash here and there but nothing that can’t be quickly fixed with an exacto blade and some Tamiya Ultra Thin Cement. The gas, brake and clutch pedals seem to be the most affected areas with flash. There is some flash present on the vinyl tires that requires a light sanding.
I like the detail in the exhaust area starting from the heat shield. However the tailpipe. It does come solid so I sawed it off a bit and added a piece of K&S aluminum tubing.
I did not encounter fit problems. The dashboard is quite detailed and replicated the real thing very well. Once built, the model can be displayed with the top on and it does fit very nicely without having to commit the part to cement. The same goes for the convertible model.
* There is a known issue with the wiper blades on this model. Apparently, the injection process does not push with enough pressure the molten plastic. Revell addressed this problem later on by providing an extra sprue with the revised parts. Unfortunately, I found about this issue last week when giving the finishing touches to the model kit. There’s no way (that I know of at the moment) to find replacement parts for these kits in the USA. I did some old school fixing to be able to finish the model and thin down that stash of started kits we all have.
The kit is an overall very nice fun build. I would like to make a comparison with the Tamiya counterpart but that for the moment will have to wait and depends when the JDM bites me. These kits are still widely available and I would recommend it to a friend if s/he asked me. Since this kit was painted literally last year, I used back then Testors One Coat Lacquer Blazing Black.
Hi, do you know if this is available in Canada? Thanks!
