Italeri Range Rover Rally

This is the Italeri 1/24 (#3694) scale kit of the Range Rover that won the 1981 Paris-Dakar Rally.

Thanks to its excellent off-road features, the Range Rover has been used for many rally competitions. By the end of the 70’s its important position was consolidated during the famous Paris-Dakar Rally, in the Automobiles category and was only beaten by the motorcycles in the general score. The Range Rovers used in that incredibly tough race had their chassis reinforced and modified and were equipped with additional fuel tanks to offer the autonomy necessary for the long desert stages.

Box consist of 4 sprues, four rubber tires, one decal sheet from Cartograph, and a mesh part for the net windows. Very simple kit, very few detail on the interior, no engine, but this are things that are not going to be seen anyway. Assembly is very straight forward, with no issues.

On the other hand, decals shown some bubbles on the roof and sides crackle  after some extra amount of Solvaset. Jose fixed the issue with dust and dirt accumulation with fantastic results.

Jose painted the kit using Tamiya Spray colors, then weathering using a mix of Tamiya Deck Tan & Buff. Final touches were applied using the line of Dust product of Ammo of Mig Jimenez.

Started with modeling kits at age of 7 with the Monogram Missouri, continue at age of 12 with the Testor F-14 and many other kits until University, work and marriage put at stop at it. Now I'm back working with kits since 2010, and dealing with every type from Tanks to Scifi, and experimenting a lot with the paintings and weathering looking to achieve life-like models.
