Mission Models US Gold MMC-003

Early this week we received a packet from our good friend Jon Tamkin from Mission Models US. Behold the latest addition to their growing color chart. With a fast and steady pace, Mission Model Paints have been adding colors to their line and we nearly approach 200 different colors including FS, RAL, RAF, NATO, USAAF, ANA, LUFTWAFFE, GAMING, COLOR SHIFT, and more.

That’s not counting colors for LEXAN many of them in a hobby shop near you 😉

I’m making the star of this entry, the newly released Mission Models MMC-003 Gold. But before I continue, here’s what’s on the new batch of colors from Mission Models:

This is the gold I was looking for…

Several months ago I did ask in our Facebook Page if there was an equivalent of the Molotov Chrome but in Gold. The question came because I was working on the 3D printed figures set from Falcon 3D Parts. I wanted to paint the C-3PO figure with something decent beyond the Testors square jar gold or any generic gold spray paint. So that’s when Mission Model’s president Jon Tamkin gave me a hint that this color was being developed. So, the figures and the X-34 Landspeeder were set aside. That was until last Monday and let me tell one thing, the wait was absolutely worth it!

I primed the figure with Mission Models MMGBB-001 Gloss Black for Chrome and left it curing overnight. As with the Chrome color from Mission Models, you can shoot with your airbrush straight from the bottle with no thinning required. If you have used chrome from MMP, you can use gold. I started with fine mist strokes around the hard to reach areas i.e between legs, armpits and behind the knees. Once these areas were well covered, I moved to the figure in general without having to worry about missing spots.

The paint flows like silk and with each passing light coat, that shiny gold-tone becomes evident. The photo above is how the figure looks like finished. Frankly, the picture doesn’t do justice. The end result is what I want to share here.

Does clear sealing degrade the finish?

In case you’re asking this question which is totally understandable. I will say no, there is no tone change when the paint is covered with clear. This is one is covered with a light coat of MMA-006 Gloss Coat. This is also from Mission Model Paints and I wouldn’t say it is equally effective with other enamel or lacquer clears because I haven’t tested that aspect yet. However, I will gladly and briefly report on it on Facebook with a proverbial spoon test. But, if you have already clear coats from MMP in your paint rack, better stick to the system IMHO.

I am very pleased with the result and this is exactly what I was looking for a few months ago. I wouldn’t have any hesitation to recommend the new MMC-003 Gold color to any of my model kit builder friends.
