This is the WW-I Male Tank from Airfix Models. 1:72 is no my scale of choice, much less 1/76 which is a bit confusing to me. I have been planning a few vignettes for a while and this scale for what I want to do is perfect. I’ll be including an Airfix 1/76 Female Tank, LCVP Higgins Boat, a Scammel Tank Transporter and a Panther Tank to the set. I’m not an armor kit modeler so bear with me, please.
The WWI Male Tank is a very straightforward kit. The base color was Tamiya Buff XF-F7 painted with my Aztek Airbrush. Following the base color, I applied Tamiya Flat Earth XF-52, Testors Model Master Acryl Green Drab 4727 and Flat Black, all of them with a regular brush.
Following this, I coated the model with Testors Gloss Cote then followed with a sludge wash using Vallejo Umber Shade 73203. A dusty look at the bottom of the tank was done with the airbrush and Acryl British Gulf Armor 4813 and topped with Vallejo Light Yellow Ocre 73102 Pigment.
I must admit that I didn’t stick to more accurate colors for this tank. This is just my humble opinion, if the model kit is to be heavily weathered, then close shades of the recommended colors will suffice.
