1/128 Flying Sub from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea

Here’s to another side project finished. This is the beautiful palm-sized 1/128 Flying Sub from Moebius. This particular kit came with the old Aurora Models logo adding a bit of nostalgia to the subject.

The model is very easy to put together and the parts are quite clean. The kit includes printed card stock which once folded as per the instructions, it will create the interior wall with panel instrumentation and all.

The kit comes molded in yellow and clear parts. The instructions are printed on the box. If there are available figurines either in resin or 3D printed, but it would be very nice to have them available.

This could easily make a fun weekend build. Can it be lighted? Absolutely! This kit could be modeled with a single 3mm LED inside. However, the base would need to be substituted or at least modified to make a constant power supply less conspicuous. As an alternative, with the use of magnets and a 3v coin cell, the effect can be achieved without any further modifications on the stand.

I would not hesitate to recommend this humble kit to any of my friends.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR

For the basic colors, I used Mission Models Paints MMP-007 Yellow and
MMP-048 Blue among others from their line. For that, I want to thank Mission Models for providing their excellent paint system for this and all our projects.

  1. I don’t understand your comment on the age of the molds…this is not the 1960’s Aurora kit. It was made by Moebius for the big Seaview kit, which is only a few years old.

    1. Larry,
Thanks for reaching out. You are absolutely right. I had in mind the Aurora version which I believe also was printed by Monogram in 1/60. To add to the confusion, the Aurora style box mention on the entry made me forget about that error.

      Thanks amigo!
