A few years ago, we were able to get some model kits from the Walmart shelves along with Testors spray paint and the classic square bottle of enamel paint and brushes. Suddenly everything was put on clearance and the model kits were history. In reality, they didn’t have a physical presence in the stores. Walmart kept selling them on-line. As part of the new toys layout of the 3rd quarter and starting to get ready for the holidays season, those model kits are back. Â A fair space for these kits, paints and accessories has been alocated by the LEGO and K-NEX section.
Most of the available kits are the usual suspects available at Michaels Stores. Michaels usually offer these kits with their always present 40% coupon. Problem is that they are rising their prices too. I’ve been waiting for the 50% instead for some supplies like Spray Dull Cote, Gloss Cote etc.
A few weeks ago I was getting the 1/24 Revell’s protective case for $6.99 at Michaels, now they’re up to $9.99 without the discount coupon. Models like the Enzo Ferrari from Revell is priced at $24.99 vs $19.99 at Walmart. Â The 1/25 Revell Peterbilt $27.99 vs $19.99. Â From $17.99 to $21.99 went up the 1/48 F-18 E Hornet and from $27.99 to $34.99 is the 1/48 F-15E. The list of increased prices goes on.
I couldn’t believe, that about a week ago, I saw plastic models @ Walmart! I was totally blown away! So much so, that I ended up purchasing, about $150.00 worth of models, to the chagrin of my wife!
