Hello folks and welcome back to those in our mailing list. I’m proud to present this humble yet cool flying saucer model kit. This is the Vic Torry and His Flying Saucer from Atlantis Models. The kit as mentioned in the highlights above is comprised of 9 pieces which are molded in yellow and clear. The design of the saucer has that nostalgic art deco look so common back in the 50’s.
Check also our built I WANT TO BELIEVE flying saucer also from Atlantis Models.
I’d say that this kit can be built by a 8 years old instead of the suggested 15. The parts other than the clear windows require no cement to be built. If you’re not into the hobby and are more of an occasional model builder or simply a UFO fan that wants to add this flying saucer model to your collection, you can use Elmer’s white glue. Whatever you do, avoid using any type of cement from the super glue family because your clear windows will end up ‘foggy”. I didn’t want to stick to the molded yellow color so judging by the comic illustration, I mixed a 50/50 of Mission Model Paints MMP-067 Yellow Zinc Chromate and MMP-090 RLM4.
I had to up the ante on this kit and added some lighting to it. Instead of the flashing unit, I used a small strip of 3528 LEDs. I did solder a 9v plug and the 9v fits perfectly fine inside the saucer. To avoid having any light ‘leaks’, I painted the model inside with Krylon Silver spray. The 2 halves of the saucer are a twist motion assembly so this kit can be built in no more than 15 minutes. It also comes with a background to display and a nice base to place your flying saucer model.
