Revell from Germany surprise us with an easy to build model kit of the legendary and robust Porsche Junior 108, which was manufactured by Porsche-Diesel Motorenbau GmbH from the late 1950s. With a Easy Click system, very similar to the old snap-tite kit and only 76 parts, this kit is intended for the model-beginner or the inexperienced collector. For this purpose, all parts are already sprayed in the correct color, all logos, coats of arms, emblems or the license plate number of the Liebebird are available as simple self-adhesive decals. The advanced modeler will certainly want to fill gaps, glue in place each parts, painting, weathering, etc. A normal water slide decal is also included for this purpose .

The Kit:
I built mine as an abandoned tractor, with some decoloration on the paint, grease and oil and some mud on the wheels and below the tractor. The kit is very simple to build, the Autocad like instructions in colors is very illustrative, yet in some steps you can be confuse by the alternatives parts, so make sure you study the instructions well. The fit is good, very push and place thing, sometimes you have to push harder or simply clean a bit the area with a sanding stick, mine just took a few hours during a weekend.
A word of advice, if you are building the kit and you don’t have plans to paint it, then just follow the instruction and you will be done in no time, otherwise I suggest that you glue all the parts before the painting step, since the kit tends to disarm with the handling. I put a coat of primer on the whole kit, this help to look for any gap or imperfection that were not see on the construction step.
For the base color I choose the Tamiya Red X-7, then to make it extra red I applied a filter coat of Clear Red X-27 and let it rest on a clear box overnight. From that Point I started the fading process on the paint using Flat White XF-2 mixed with the Red looking for a pink/red color. the application wash done by brush in very thin coats. The process is accumulative, so many coats have to be done to achieve the final result. Also I added some more white to make the color more faded at the end. After an hour I sealed the kit with Testor Dullcoat and leave it overnight.
Next step, the chipping process. I just make this part very subtle using a fine brush here and there. Also some pin wash were done using dark rust and chipping color from AMMO. Next some filters very diluted using the Ammo rust set in the hood and in the fenders to make a faded tone due to the long exposed to the sun. Grime and oils stain also done with AMMO MIG products, they are so easy to use and the results are very convincing. Some mud effect on the wheels using the Ammo European earth pigments with a wet mix of European Earth Color also from AMMO. The key to a realistic finish on the wheels is to wipe out the excess with a wet sponge or napkin after a few minutes. Last details are done using a graphite pencil to bare metals parts, handles, etc.
I Must say this is a very quick and easy kit and a different theme to take a break from car and military kits. Highly recommended.
