Revell 1/25 Auto Transport Trailer Model Kit

Whether they are new cars going to be sold or old cars going to auction, cars stacked precariously on semi-trailers is a common sight on the nation’s roads. Car companies load the maximum amount of cars possible onto the trailers, lending a jigsaw-puzzle look to the entire contraption. With this trailer kit you can load as many as six 1/25 scale kits and haul them with a 1/25 scale tractor (all sold separately).

REVELL AUTO TRANSPORT TRAILER / CAR HAULER PLASTIC MODEL KIT #85-1509

This kit arrived at my desk recently and it is part of the latest releases from Revell. The 1/24 Auto Transport Trailer kit # 85-1509. I’ve been looking forward to getting one of these without paying a kidney for it as well as 1/32 scale. However, for the 1/32 scale, I believe that I will have to stick to a New Ray toy version and to some modifications of my own. Inside the box of the new Auto Transport Trailer, you will find 10 nicely molded vinyl tires, real metal chains, a proper scale wire to simulate hydraulic lines and a small sheet of decals in the usual Revell quality.

I usually strip off the chrome on kits that intend to build (at the moment or later) and I was prepared to do so. But thankfully all the rims are provided in the injected plastic color (Silver) which meant that I didn’t have to go thru the chrome stripping step (nice call Revell). As for the rest of the parts here we go:

Although our sample didn’t have any amount of flash to be concerned about, there are visible marks in which the plastic did not make it well during the injection process (see picture below.)  Given the nature of the subject, there are plenty of ejection pin marks that will be visible. I don’t really mind those in the lower storage level, but those sink marks on the upper storage level will be visible and will require our attention.

Besides those negatives that can be addressed with filler and some elbow grease, this a nice kit and exactly what I was expecting for my 1/24 cars. The other auto transport trailer that I know off is from AMT models and it is a 50’s based transport which has been OOP for quite a long time. Although the MSRP for this kit is $39.99 USD, depending on where you get yours the price can be less than that; say less than 2, 1/24 Revell model kit cars.

    1. Lloyd,

I have the feeling that either this kit sold very fast or probably Revell didn’t print too many of them. To me is the later. I’m well aware that a lot of folks are having a hard time to find one. Keep your eyes peeled on the Facebook market.
