Lessons from the decade-long conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, and newer concerns over Iran, China and the Middle East, are prompting the Pentagon to rethink military strategy. One new focus is its amphibious operations — making soldiers seaworthy, and using positions on the water to better support combat on land.
