Tatiana’s Vanship and Fam’s Vespa

Last Exile (ラストエグザイル Rasuto Eguzairu?) is a Japanese animated television series created by Gonzo. It featured a production team led by director Koichi Chigira, character designer Range Murata, and production designer Mahiro Maeda. The three had previously worked together in Blue Submarine No. 6, one of the first CG anime series. Last Exile aired on TV Tokyo between April 7, 2003 and September 29, 2003. A sequel series, Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing- (ラストエグザイル~銀翼のファム~ Rasuto Eguzairu Gin’yoku no Famu?), aired between October 15, 2011 and March 23, 2012. A film adaptation of the series, Last Exile -Fam, The Silver Wing-: Over the Wishes, will be released on February 6, 2016.

The story is set on the fictional world of Prester, where its inhabitants use aerial vehicles known as vanships as a means of transportation. On this world which is divided in eternal conflict between the nations of Anatoray and Disith, sky couriers Claus Valca and Lavie Head must deliver a girl who holds the key to uniting the two factions.

It has been a while since the last time I built a fantasy model from Hasegawa. I broke the ice after this long hiatus with Tatiana’s VANSHIP and Fam’s VESPA Hasegawa’s kit #64732. This kit pays homage for the latest chapter of the Japanese animated show Last Exile ‘Over the Wishes’. As past iterations of the kit it comes nicely and crisply molded.

This is a 1/72 model kit but it does include a nice 1/35 scale resin figure of Tatiana and Fam.

The fit is superb and the instructions are very easy to follow. The model includes water slide decals which I found a little on thin side. In fact, some of the decals, especially the white stripes, did not respond well to TS-13 Clear Coat from Tamiya.

Tatiana’s Vespa was painted with Tamiya TS-8 Italian Red topped with Tamiya TS-13 Clar Coat and Fam’s Vespa was painted with Krylon SCS-032 Chrome. The rest of the ‘pipes’ on the model are a mix of Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black and Tamiya XF-84 Dark Iron.

For the model who does not discriminate subjects or the Anime fan,  Tatiana’s VANSHIP and Fam’s VESPA from Hasegawa is highly recommended. Our resides now in a showcase at the entrance of our studio.

Our sincere thanks to Hobbico for the review sample.
