Nuts & Bolts Volume 36: Büssing’s schwere Pz.Spähwagen Part 2 – schw.Pz.Spähwagen (7,5 cm) (SdKfz.233), schw.Pz.Fu.Wg (SdKfz.263) (8-Rad) & Panzermesskraftwagen

The latest title from the Nuts & Bolts team is part two of the Pz.Spähwagen series. Although I have other great reference works such as the Panzer Tracts for scale plans and production information, this is still a worthy addition to the library. Since the title’s target group includes modelers, I will state that AFV Club recently released kits of the Sd.Kfz. 233 & 263 in 1/35th scale. As printed, the book has 208 pages not

N&B Volume 35 Cover

The latest title from the Nuts & Bolts team is part one of the Pz.Spähwagen series. Although I have other great reference works such as the Panzer Tracts for scale plans and production information, this is still a worthy addition to the library. Since the title’s target group includes modelers, I will state that Tamiya and AFV Club have all released kits of this vehicle in 1/35th scale. As printed, the book has 200

Nuts & Bolts Volume 34: Sd.Kfz. 7 – 8 ton Zugkraftwagen Krauss-Maffei and Variants

The latest title from the Nuts & Bolts team is on the SdKfz 7 series. Although I have other great reference works such as the Wings & Wheels publication for photos and Panzer Tracts for scale plans and production information, this is still a worthy addition to the library. Since the title’s target group includes modelers, I will state that Dragon, Tamiya, and Trumpeter have all released kits of this halftrack in 1/35th

AOA Decals: Black Ponies & More Broncos

With the release of the New Kitty 1/32nd scale OV-10A, a new (to me) company announced a sheet of decals specifically for this kit.  AOA Decals has released a sheet of US Navy and USMC Broncos in both 1/32nd and 1/72nd scales.  What attracted me can be seen on the fuel pod in the cropped image below:   After all, my Internet name is sharkmouth!  Visiting the web site, I saw that the sheet

Zoukei Mura Pro Zetsu Nippers

This is now my favorite tool to cut parts free from the sprue… After seeing some lively discussions on side cutters as used for plastic modelling, I found two camps formed between users of Tamiya and those using Xuron products. Not having a Tamiya side cutter, I fell into the latter having a Xuron knock-off, Testors Modelmaster (made by Xuron) sprue cutter, and Xuron’s 2175ET professional sprue cutter. For me, the test is how cleanly it

Nuts & Bolts 33: ”Leichte Feldhaubitze 18, GW II für le.F.H. 18/2 ”Wespe“ and ”Hummel-Wespe“

One thing I respect about Nuts & Bolts is that they are ready to revisit earlier books on vehicles they find new information on and don’t seem concerned if other publishers have touched the subject.   I had bought the original many years ago when it first came out.  It is still a very good volume so I was interested to see what new information has turned up. Other great reference works have come about such as

Panzer Art RE35-021 Cooler Mask for Sd.Kfz.Kfz.9 FAMO

Panzer Art has been making resin and photo-etched brass detail items for several years now. I recently acquired some sets for my Tamiya Sd.Kfz. 9 Famo. One of these items is Panzer Art's grill (called cooler mask on their site). The other set is for the Dragon Sd.Kfz. 7 series which I will review separately. Inside a resealable plastic bag with a cardboard header, we find one resin part, exquisitely molded. 13981

Paper Panzer Productions PPP35010 Jagdpanzer IV (V) Final Conversion

Paper Panzer Productions lineup includes conversions & PE details, mostly for vehicles that did not make it into widespread service.  However, this is one of the exceptions.  This set is a conversion for Dragon's latest Jagdpanzer IV (V) to convert it into the final variant. Inside a ©Ziploc style bag with a paper header, we find five items.  On the left is the replacement roof (compare to the kit item in the next photograph).  On the right

Paper Panzer Productions etched Casting Symbols incl. German Factory Markings

Paper Panzer Productions is a new company from Belgium which has released several unique and interesting resin detail and conversion sets for 1/35th scale models.  This is their first etched set.  Product PPP35012 arrives in a © Ziploc type bag with a paper header stapled to it. There are no instructions. Inside we find a fairly large sheet packed with numerals and letters.  These are protected by plastic sheets on both sides.   While I peeled them

Italeri 1/35 Military Container

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) developed many standards including some covering shipping. One of the items standardized, using the ISO 6346 reporting mark, were intermodal shipping containers. This meant that the container, without being opened or unloaded, can be transferred from ship to rail to truck. Among the various lengths standardized, there is the 20 foot container as released by Italeri in model form. Inside the side opening box, there are two identical sprues,

Masterpiece Models’ 1/48th Russian Hexagon Tarmac/ SCIFI Display Base

With the return of Masterpiece Models to the original owner, several new welcome releases are now available from their shop.  One of these that caught my interest is the 48th scale Russian Hexagon display base.  The hexagons were CAD designed by Chris Benshoof while John Geigle completed the scene.  In a simply and surprisingly light box, we find the 12 inch by 12 inch base.  It seems to be made of a resin foam as

Trumpeter’s 35th Scale PLA WZ505 IFV

The Chinese have been building their copy of the BMP-1 for quite a while and have created many variations.  One of these took the turret of the Type 92 wheels vehicle and adapted it to their BMP-1 clone in lieu of the regular gun turret.  Trumpeter almost did the same thing.  They took the Hobby Boss Type 92 turret and dropped it onto their nicely done BMP-1 kit hull.  Note, I did not write adapted.
